WORD PROBLEMS...TEAM KA-BLAMO! Problems?? Word, man...

I think it's original to call our fantabulous team of three Team Ka-Blamo [members: Jamie, Kristina and Eleven]

Well, our problem of course, was on slide 15 and it asks:

Well, we're going to do things the old school modern way...actually write the stuff on paper...[because we can't afford a tablet] then scan it and upload...that's the way we do things. We spent like five hours getting everything well, thorough enough via MSN...

A FERRIS WHEEL HAS A RADIUS OF 20 METERS. IT ROTATES ONCE EVERY 40 SECONDS. PASSENGERS GET ON AT POINT S WHICH IS 1 METERS ABOVE GROUND LEVEL. SUPPOSE YOU GET ON AT S AND THE WHEEL STARTS TO ROTATE.

a.] Graph how your height above the ground varies during the first two cycles...
The graph we drew looks pointy but it is CURVED sorry.

That's just a graph based on the given info.... and we nearly got confused because of the minimum value being 1 m off the ground instead of touching the x-axis. But then we figured that ferris WHEELS [typo in your slide.] don't touch the ground or else they would scrape the concrete.

b.] Write an equation that expresses your height as a function of the elapsed time.

Basically, all we did was find each parameter for both the sine and cosine function even though we only needed one.

c.] Determine your height above the ground after 45 seconds.

All that needs to be done here is sub the t in the function H(t) with 45 seconds and the result will be the new height at this time according to the graph, assuming the revolving doesn't stop and is continuous.

d] Determine one time when your height is 35m above the ground.

Replace H(t) with 35 and isolate t to get time in seconds.

That wasn't much explanation in words but you know... we spent a lot of time getting these answers and we hope this is what you guys are looking for....I'm famished. G'night...I'll edit this later....haha

The process seems fine. But remember not to make points on the graph, keep it curvy. Good job on noticing the 1m of the ground thingy. I haven't checked the answers but the process seems correct. Good job :)

Yeah, Job well done. I also agree on the pointy graph. I'd also prefer to see less time intervals on your graph. I guess it's because I'm used to the regular 4 intervals. I scanned through your steps, to me it looks flawless.

I skimmed through it and I haven't found any errors, unless if I overlooked something. Oh well.

It looks good.

Well TEAM KA-BLAMO! I belive that you have done a good job but i found that curves are a little pointy and straight other wise good job !

lol Richard... they (and others) already said that...

well. the reason why the time intervals were like that was because the question was asking for at least two cycles....

KAAAAAAAA-BLAMO

Lol. Anyways, to the point, it was well done. I agree w/ the whole pointy graph, 'cause you'd lose a mark so yeah.
Coulda used paint too but scanning and uploading is just as much effort so good job guys.

Job well done.. in my opinion. Unless anyone else has anything to say.
I say good-day.

Alrighty guys, GREAT job on the diagrams and such, they made is super easy to see what you were doing :) I appreciate that a bunch.

Like just about everyone said just watch out for "pointy" graphs. Those will cost you marks when dealing with curved functions like sine and cosine.

Great work, I vote, correct! :D

Paul here.

While you obviously know how to solve the equation, I think you made a mistake. I think your amplitude should be a = 20 and your vertical shift should be d = 21 (since its a ferris wheel, they would be on the surface of the wheel, which would be suspended above the ground 1 meter, so the center of the wheel is 21m off the ground). The problem is this is because the question isnt quite clear and its open to interpretation (your interpretation vs mine).

Other than this making your values different, your method is correct so far as I can tell. I guess we'll just have to see what Mr.K thinks.

What do you think, Mr.K?

hmm looking through this I didn't find anything wrong with it. Oh and your pointy curves are unique but too bad they have to be curvy. Kristina I see your azureus you pirate.

Good job team Ka-Blamo! When I finished answering this question I basically got the same answers as well. Though, I'd personally use 2pi/40 instead of pi/20. Other than that, well done! (:

Paul,

I think you made a good point. I also think that the amplitude should be 20 because the ferris wheel is 1 meter above the ground. That being said the vertical shift will change too,it will be 21. Like you said it is a matter of one's interpretation. Now, i kinda like to go to class once in a while to see the class's progress but too bad i still have my AP class.

nice work except I would of drawn the graph more like "round hills" not a zigzag pattern and I would of rounded to four decimal places for question d which would be 15.7929 seconds.

Haha, everyone's complaining about your pointy graph. It kind of reminds me of those heart monitor things.. ANYWAYS.

I liked how organized this was, it was easy to read and follow and understand, and your process looks good too. So, good job guys. =)
